Bali Confronted By The Gods......Click Here For Unbeatable Value On Ruby Gems, Ruby Gemstone Sterling Silver Jewelry - Ruby Gemstone Sterling Silver Jewellery - Ruby Sterling Silver Rings - Ruby Sterling Silver Earrings - Ruby Sterling Silver Pendants - At Up To 80 % Below Retail.
India's ancient Vedic texts offer a number of stories that explain the origins of gems. One Vedic legend is the slightly grisly tale of the demon king Bali, who became invincible defeating all the gods living in heaven. God of thunder, Indra, decided to take action against Bali tricking the demon king into offering himself as a sacrifice. The gods and demigods then sacrificed Bali, but because Bali had offered himself with benevolence, he became pure and his severed body parts fell to earth as gems: Bali's blood turner into Ruby.

The blood of Bali was taken by the god of the Sun: Surya, who fled into the vastness of space. However Ravana, the mortal king of Sri Lanka, puffed up with his regal power attempted to stop the god's flight. Terrified of Ravana's fearsome presence, the Sun god dropped Bali's blood, which fell down into the deep pools of India, Burma, Siam, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Nepal, Tibet and Sri Lanka.

These pools became holy and were known as ‘Ravana-Ganga’, and the banks of these waters became covered with precious and beautiful Ruby, possessing manifold virtues. Bali’s other body parts were transformed into gemstones as well: his teeth became pearls, his eyes blue sapphires, his skin yellow sapphires, his intestines coral, his bones diamonds and even his war cry transformed becoming cat's eye gems.

The Vedic scripture weren’t just stories, they were metaphors meant to be translated and implemented as everyday guides to life. The tale of Bali was meant as a healing guide: each gem of Bali's body parts was supposed to provide cures for specific parts of the human body. Diamond: Bali's bones, was used to heal bone diseases, Ruby: Bali's blood, was said to cure and purify blood diseases, Yellow and White Sapphire: Bali’s skin, to cure skin diseases and leprosy and Lapis Lazuli: Bali’s radiance, was used to treat jaundice and improve sight.
