Peridot
Healing
|
Peridot possesses the color of purification and detoxification.
It is used to clear skin problems such as eczema and fever
spots. It is believed that the green gemstone will free
someone from anger and accumulated rage, bring peace and
liberate from worry. Peridot is said to protect the
body’s aura and bring its wearer success, peace, and good
luck. |
To
some, these beliefs seem to be wacky alternatives dreamt
up by west coast hippies, or just another marketing tool.
In reality, the lore of gem healing has its roots planted
in ancient practices that predate modern medicine by thousands
of years. Two such ancient healing techniques, still very
much in practice in countries such as India and Thailand today, are
Litho-therapy and Crystal Healing. |
|
Litho-therapy,
from the Greek ‘Lithos’ meaning ‘Stone,’ and crystal healing are practices
whereby crystals and stones are used to rebalance and harmonize the
body’s internal energy flow. The belief in minerals having
healing properties is as old as the hills: used
by Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Greeks, Chinese and just
about every other archaic culture that has ever walked
the face of the Earth.
|
|
In both forms of therapy it is believed that every mineral, whether
semi-precious, precious or just common garden rock crystal,
has a specific material property that relates to healing
our spiritual and physical problems. These therapies work
in function to the 7 zones of the body, called chakras,
through which the body’s spiritual energy flows. Practising therapists
believe that the body’s physical ailments stem from the
disruption of the body's spiritual and emotional energies. For skeptics, it is
interesting to note that the English word ‘Disease’ (‘Dis-Ease’),
and the French ‘Malaise’ (‘Mal-Aise’), are formed from
words that describe a negative physical manifestation
due to a negative mental state. |
Therapists and healers believe that spiritual agitation can cause these
chakras to shift or block, de-centering the flow of energy
causing a worsening state of health. The use of a mineral,
and its curative properties, used in relation to a specific
chakra is believed to detoxify and re-center the energy
flow, helping the body to regain its physical and spiritual
well-being. |
Within
the two methods of mineral therapy, the relation of color
plays a strong role: each mineral possessing a vibratory
resonance that translates into a particular nuance. This
echoes each of the Chakras that also possess their own
energy frequency levels and colors. Some minerals are
used with particular chakras to calm, while others are
used to invigorate: Red for example is used to strengthen.
Golden Green Peridot is used in conjunction with the 3rd
and 4th chakras. The third chakra is the ‘Solar Plexus’;
here again we see ‘Solar’ meaning ‘Sun’ being related
to Peridot. Translated into Sanskrit this is the ‘Manipura’:
‘Lustrous Gem, City of the Shining Jewel.’ The fourth
chakra is the ‘Heart’ chakra, which in Sanskrit means
‘Anahata’: ‘Pure Sound of Creation.’ |
|
|
The
third chakra is the center of individual rule, ego, passion,
impulse, anger and strength. It is also the center for
astral influence, receptivity of spirit guides and for
psychic development. When the third chakra is not in equilibrium
you may be short of confidence, confused, worry about
what others think, feel that others are controlling your
life, and depressed. Associated physical problems are
digestive difficulties, allergies, liver problems, diabetes,
and nervous exhaustion. Body parts connected to this chakra
include: stomach, liver, gall bladder, pancreas and small
intestine. |
When possessing a
balanced third chakra you may feel cheerful, outgoing,
expressive and enjoy taking on new challenges. The color
of the third Chakra is yellow: a warm color that stimulates
the nervous system and affects the emotions, it can help
with mood elevation and the alleviation of exhaustion
and burnout. Its associated gemstones are topaz, citrine,
yellow calcite and Peridot. Its associated essential oils
are angelica, chamomile, fennel, frankincense, geranium,
juniper, lemon myrrh, rose, rosemary and sandalwood. |
The
fourth chakra is known as the heart chakra, which is located
behind the breastbone, on the spine between the shoulder
blades in the back. At its center is the center of love,
compassion and spirituality. This chakra directs one's
ability to love themselves and others, to give and to
receive love and connects the body and mind with spirit.
When this chakra is out of balance you may feel sorry
for yourself, paranoid, indecisive, afraid of letting
go, afraid of getting hurt or unworthy of love. Physical
problems associated with this chakra are heart attack,
high blood pressure, insomnia and difficulty in breathing.
Associated body parts are heart, lungs, circulatory system,
shoulders and upper back. |
|
When
possessing a balanced fourth chakra you may feel compassionate,
friendly, empathetic, have a desire to nurture others
and see the good in everyone. The colors of the fourth
chakra are pink and green: cool colors and great balancers
that can help soothe and bring harmony. Associated gemstones
are rose quartz, kunzite, watermelon tourmaline and Peridot.
Associated essential oils are bergamot, birch, lavender,
myrrh, rose, sage, sandalwood and thyme. |
|
There
are no secondary effects with either crystal healing or litho-therapy, and you don’t
have to pay out for treatment. You can start practicing
both forms of therapy yourself by choosing your own gems and crystals.
Let yourself be guided by your intuition. If a particular
gem or crystal jumps out at you, then it’s trying
to tell you something. Once you’ve made your decision,
it’s better that someone buys the gem for you as a gift:
a little persuasion and a ‘Please’ in the right direction
can get you over this hurdle. Before wearing your gem jewelry for the first time it is very important that
you |
clean it, to purify it of previous imprints left by
others. Gems possess a life of their own, so if you treat
them with love they will give it to you back ten times
over. |
