The term ‘Orient’ or ‘Iridescence’ is often appropriated
to Pearl, Mother Of Pearl as well as to Opal. ‘Orient’ or
‘Iridescence’ is a general expression used to describe the
presence of a rainbow effect across the Pearl’s surface, much
like the shimmer seen on a soap bubble. This light phenomenon
is produced when light travels through the layers of nacre
crystals, which act like tiny prisms interfering and diffracting
the light.
