The skill of the cutter and his knowledge of positioning
and angling
facets are vital. The positioning of the
facets at precise angles, is executed so that light bounces off them internally
to produce what is called ‘Maximum brilliance’.
Cutting standards are far more relaxed for colored
gemstones than for diamonds. Most Rubies are faceted overseas, producing what the trade calls ‘Native cuts.’
Dealers here often have to recut off-center, which
produces asymmetrical gems.
