Amethyst Healing
Aside from its legendary protective powers against the intoxicating affects of alcohol, Amethyst is believed to cure headaches, migraines, improve the body's immune system, and help cleanse the blood. Because of it's noble purple coloration Amethyst is also said to have an extreme affect on a person's psychic awareness, increasing the activity of the right side of the brain, and opening the mind to other levels of consciousness. |

To some, these beliefs seem to be wacky alternatives dreamt up by west coast hippies, or just another marketing tool. In reality the lore of gem healing has its roots planted in ancient practices that predate modern medicine by thousands of years. Two such ancient healing techniques, still very much in practice in countries such as India and Thailand today, are Litho-therapy and Crystal Healing.
Litho-therapy, from the Greek 'Lithos' meaning 'Stone,' and Crystal Healing are a curative practices whereby minerals are used to rebalance and harmonize the body's internal energy flow. The belief in minerals having healing properties is as old as the hills: being used by the Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Greeks, Chinese and just about every other archaic culture that has ever walked the face of the Earth.
|
In both forms of therapy it is believed that every mineral, whether semi-precious, precious or just common garden rock crystal has a specific material property that relates to healing our spiritual and physical problems. Crystal Healing and Litho-Therapy work in function to the 7 zones of the body, called chakras, through which the body's spiritual energy flows. Mineral healers believe that the body's physical ailments stem from the disruption of this spiritual energy. For skeptics it is interesting to note that English word 'Disease' ('Dis-Ease'), and the French 'Malaise' ('Mal-Aise'), are formed from words that describe a negative physical manifestation due to a negative mental state.

Mineral healers believe that spiritual agitation can cause these chakras to shift or block, de-centering the flow of energy causing a worsening state of health. The use of a mineral, and its curative properties used in relation to a specific chakra is believed to detoxify and re-center the energy flow, helping the body to regain its physical and spiritual well-being.
Within Litho-therapy the relation of mineral material to color plays a strong role: each mineral possessing a vibratory resonance that translates into a particular nuance. This echoes each of the Chakras which also possess their own energy frequency levels and colors. Some minerals are used with particular chakras to calm, while others are used to invigorate: Red for example is used to strengthen.

The violet, purple nuances of Amethyst are used in conjunction with the 7th chakra. The seventh chakra is the 'Crown,' translated into Sanskrit this is the 'Sahasrara': 'Thousand Petaled.'
|
Situated just behind the top of the skull, the seventh chakra is the center of enlightenment, cosmic consciousness, energy and perfection. Here is where the opposite polarities, Shiva and Shakti, male and female, electric and magnetic, solar and lunar are married in union. The seventh chakra allows the inward flow of wisdom, bringing the gift of cosmic consciousness and connection with God. The crown is the gateway to the soul, coming into the body at birth and leaving at death. If this chakra is out of balance or blocked you will be frustrated, lacking joy and full of destructiveness. Physical manifestations of problems with the seventh chakra are headaches, migraines and depression.
|
|
When the seventh chakra is in balance you feel the ability to open up to the divine and gain access to the unconscious and subconscious minds. The associated colors are violet, purple, white and gold, colors of inner power, which can bring higher understanding and calm. Associated gemstones are Amethyst, tanzanite, clear quartz and opal. If you are interested in aromatherapy the associated essential oils are lemon, lotus, orange, rose, sandalwood and yarrow.

There are no secondary effects with either forms of healing, and you don't have to pay out for treatment. You can start practicing either Crystal Healing, or Litho-therapy yourself by choosing your own Amethyst gems, and crystals. Let yourself be guided by your intuition, if a particular Amethyst gem or crystal jumps out at you then that it's trying to tell you something. Once you've made your decision, it's better that someone buys the Amethyst for you as a gift: a little persuasion and a 'Please' in the right direction can get you over this hurdle. Before wearing Amethyst jewelry for the first time it is very important that you clean it to purify it of previous imprints left by others. Gems possess a life of their own so if you treat them with love they will give it to you back ten times over.
